Wider Opportunities
Music for All for FREE
Music making has changed in many of our schools since the ‘wider entitlement’ pledge promising every primary school child the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument. Walking along any school corridor now you may well hear the sound of ukuleles, string ensembles or samba bands - with everyone, often including the class teacher, involved.
Happier young people
The benefits musically are clear to see (and hear!) but the ambition for this entitlement goes beyond the music - the aspiration is that this musical involvement will encourage ‘happier, more musical, successful, confident and self assured young people’.
Confident young people
With access to Essex Music Services Wider Opportunities ICT via your school Moodle, pupils can continue their learning, rehearsing and enjoyment of music at home using their own computer. Pupils who are able to practice more, are more motivated and tend to progress faster.
Teachers who are free to inspire
As teachers our main aims are to promote, encourage and develop our pupils’ learning. Essex Music Services Wider Opportunities ICT, in partnership with Charanga, offer thousands of high quality, easy to use resources including songs, pieces, videos and quizzes which support and enhance musical learning. From their earliest stage of involvement, the high quality interactive materials can support our modern young people freeing you, the teacher, to inspire.
The motivational materials can be used during the lessons to provide a relevant and positive learning environment where listening, composing and performing are integrated. The resources can be displayed on an interactive white board, through a projector, on a computer, or the parts printed out - also allowing access between the weekly sessions, possibly in the classroom or at home. This flexibility facilitates pupils’ progress, helping to consolidate and support learning.
